Godwill Barasa founded Lock & Mercer and leads its technology.
He started it because the same problem kept arriving from two sides. Software is built by one set of people and lived with by another, and most of what decides whether a product survives is settled long before launch, in decisions nobody writes down. A studio that keeps what it builds closes that gap by construction rather than by good intentions.
The studio now runs on ten people across nine countries, and the work is theirs. SpaceYako, the property platform the studio owns. Rebuilds for Business Report, an independent business publication. Khendo FM, a radio station across Western Kenya and the North Rift. COFEK, the Consumers Federation of Kenya. Every one was already live with an audience that could not be lost in a migration.
His own side of it is direction and technology. What gets built, what it runs on, and which constraints are not open to negotiation when a deadline argues otherwise. He is unusually interested in the parts of the job nobody demos: cutovers, deliverability, redirect maps checked against production instead of assumed. Most of what this studio publishes about operating rather than shipping exists because those get planned here rather than discovered.

In these markets the constraint is not technology. It is trust, and trust is an engineering problem. Anyone can build the product. Almost nobody builds the thing that lets a stranger check whether the product is telling the truth. That is the gap worth spending a career in.
