Regulatory groundwork

We are not lawyers. We will tell you precisely when to hire one.

What this is

The statutes a product sits on, read before it is built.

Products in payments, property, health and media sit on statute whether or not anyone reads it. The cost of finding that out late is not a fine; it is a rebuild, because the obligation usually attaches to a structural decision, who holds the money, where the data lives, what you are storing and for how long.

So we map the surface first: which licensing regimes the model touches, what the data-protection obligations are for the categories you will actually collect, and what the payments rules require of a business that moves money between two other parties. We give you the section text rather than our paraphrase of it, because a paraphrase is where the error enters and because you will need the original in front of a lawyer anyway.

This is groundwork, not legal advice, and the distinction is not a disclaimer. The useful output is a written list of what is clear, what is ambiguous, and what specifically needs a qualified opinion, which makes the legal engagement shorter and considerably cheaper.

What’s involved

Licensing surface
Which regimes the model plausibly touches, and which it clearly does not.
Data protection review
The categories you will actually collect, the basis for each, retention, and cross-border transfer.
Payments and money movement
What changes if funds pass through you rather than between your users.
A written list for your lawyer
What is settled, what is ambiguous, and what needs a qualified opinion.

How it usually goes

01Describe the model precisely
Most regulatory questions turn on a detail of flow.
02Map the surface
With citations to the instruments themselves.
03Separate clear from ambiguous
Honestly, including where we do not know.
04Hand over to counsel
With the questions already framed.

What we won’t do

  • We do not give legal advice and will not be described as having done so.
  • We will not summarise a statute in place of quoting it.
  • We will not tell you a grey area is settled because it would be convenient.
