Business Report

A publication is an archive before it is a homepage. This one arrived with years of published work behind it and a set of addresses that other sites had linked to and search engines had indexed.

That archive was the thing at risk in any rebuild. Redesigns commonly treat old URLs as cleanup, notice the traffic loss a month later, and never fully recover it. So the project was planned backwards from the redirect map rather than forwards from the design.

Every existing address was enumerated and mapped to where it would live, and the map was verified against the live site rather than assumed. An untested redirect map is a hypothesis, not a deliverable.

The newsroom became structured content: sections, authors and articles as real records, with editorial preview, feeds and a search surface. Structure an editor can work inside is structure that stays intact, and it is what keeps an archive usable a decade later.

Rendering is server-side. A business publication is read the day it publishes and cited for years afterwards, and those two demands are not served by the same caching strategy.
