Inés Carvalho

Design

Inés Carvalho runs design at Lock & Mercer.

The work here is mostly systems rather than screens. A token block that lets a client be re-branded without a rebuild. A type scale that holds from a headline down to a table cell. Rules and grids that make thirty pages read as one site instead of thirty decisions.

The unglamorous half is the admin. Operator consoles are the most-used interface in most businesses and the least designed, and whether staff can resolve a customer problem without a developer is a design outcome long before it is an engineering one.

Works from Lisbon.
